Aemmer Couloir

The public was informed on Saturday afternoon, January 27, that a Saskatchewan man, age 32, had passed away following his Friday fall from Mount Temple’s Aemmer Couloir in Banff National Park. There was a notable decline as a result.

A sluff from the rock face above the Aemmer Couloir of Mount Temple struck one of the three party members, knocking him off his feet while cramponing, according to the RCMP.

At around 4:30 p.m., park personnel got the call. After receiving the call, emergency personnel went to find the man. At the scene, he was declared deceased.

The deceased individual, whose name remains undisclosed, was part of a group of three people on Mount Temple’s Aemmer Couloir. He was knocked off his feet while cramponing after being struck by a rock fragment from the granite wall above the couloir.

After the other party members safely descended, they discovered that their companion had died from their injuries from the fall. In the final moments of light, the dead was recovered by sling rescue, and the remaining members were subsequently flown out by helicopter.

The topic was not interred.

More details about the individual are still emerging; his identity has not been made public yet. Parks Canada will submit a more thorough report; be sure to return to this page (isinfo24) for updates.
