Andy Russell Dies - Passed Away

Andy Russell Pittsburgh Dies – Obituary: At the age of 82, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and Super Bowl winner Andy Russell passed away early on Friday morning, March 1. He was great off the field as well, winning two Super Bowls and winning seven Pro Bowls. Among the most pleasant men you will ever have the opportunity to meet.

Who Is Andy Russell

Russell was an NFL player with the Steelers for twelve seasons. In 1974 and 1975, he played on Pittsburgh’s first two World Championship teams.

He was one of the select few players whose career connected the Steelers’ then-dying 1960s squad with the dynasty the organization established under Chuck Noll in the 1970s. He was named to the 1975 AP NFL All-Star team as a first-team selection and to the second team three more times.

He was on the NFL All-Pro team four times. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl player. Russell gets inducted into the Pittsburgh Hall of Fame and the Steelers All-Time Team.

He played for the Steelers in their lean years and went on to win two Super Bowls! He was one of the few players that stuck with the Pittsburgh Steelers during all of their awful teams.

He was a part of the initial class of the organization’s Hall of Honor and the all-time Steelers team.

Andy’s passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers was so great that it carried over into Super Bowl week, even after he left the team.

He was loved by so many Pittsburgh Steelers fans and would be missed dearly.
