After battling an unidentified disease, Japanese voice actress Atsuko Tanaka from Beyond Journey’s End regretfully passed away at the age of 61 on Tuesday, August 20. Her most well-known role was that of Motoko Kusanagi in the Ghost in the Shell movie and television series.

Motoko Kusanagi is simply one of the coolest protagonists in fiction. Atsuko Tanaka brought the legend to life in her performance.

Her portrayals of Makoto Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, Kaine from NieR, Bayonetta, and numerous others made her well-known.

In addition, she provided the voice of Lisa Lisa in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hanami in Jujutsu Kaisen, Flamme in Frieren Beyond Journeys End, Konan in the Naruto series, Caster in the Fate/stay night series, and Kyrie Ushiromiya in Umineko no Naku Koro ni.

She was a great talent who gave voice to many incredible personalities. In anime, where female characters might frequently be shown as weak or pathetic, she played so many strong and powerful women.

Everyone who knew her adored her. We shall really miss her.
