The public was informed on Wednesday, March 13, that on Tuesday, March 12, at approximately 1:47 p.m., in the Regent Park neighborhood of Toronto, Benedict Johnson Kongolo, 23, shot and killed his father and brother, leaving his mother with non-life-threatening wounds. The incident happened in broad daylight.

The two victims that passed away are reportedly the 14th and 15th murder victims in Toronto for the year 2024.

Benedict’s mother and brother were taken to the hospital, where his sibling eventually passed away, according to the police. Benedict’s father was declared dead at the spot. A clear explanation for what precipitated the shooting has not been made public. We’re not sure; perhaps they got into a fight before the two persons were shot and killed.

Benedict was pursued on foot, resulting in injuries to two police officers. One of the officers had injuries to his arm, while the other was hospitalized after suffering severe damage to his legs.

Later on, Benedict was taken into custody nearby. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning, March 13, and is charged with two charges of first-degree murder.

Further information is emerging from this ongoing investigation.
