Later, on Thursday, January 4, 2024, Cocoa passed away from his illness. According to reports, he had been fighting throat cancer for five years.

Who Is Cocoa Tea

He was educated at the Savannah Primary School in Rocky Point and the Bustamante Junior Secondary School in Lionel Town Clarendon. Calvin George Scott was born on September 3, 1959, in Rocky Point, Clarendon.

COCOA TEA recorded his debut song, “Searching In The Hills,” in 1974 as a result of the exposure he received from singing in church and school choruses. Calvin wasn’t interested in pursuing music as a career because he was just fourteen years old and had other interests. “Searching in the Hills” was not at all profitable.

Calvin felt deeply disappointed, so he temporarily put the music business out of his mind. Over the following five years, COCOA TEA worked as a jockey and later a fisherman. He started organizing his music career during this fishing period. The dancehalls served as his training grounds, as he tested his songs on the several sound systems that performed in his neighborhood.

After finding success in the dancehalls, he was inspired to pursue his goals and started creating songs and honing his voice. The birth of his first kid, Rashane, provided the decisive push. He became a full-time musician out of a necessity for a reliable source of income.

Since 1984, Cocoa Tea has performed all around the world, including lengthy tours of the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Japan. He continues to perform regularly at all significant local events and, with the exception of 1989, has participated in reggae Sunsplash, the primary festival, each year since 1987.

Over 21 studio albums have been released by Cocoa Tea; the most recent, “Yes We can,” was released in 2008 under the “Roaring Lion Record Label.”

Everyone who had the chance to spend time with him will sincerely miss him. Please remember and pray for his family and friends.
