Dennis Edney Obituary

Dennis Edney Death – Cause Of Death: At approximately 5:37 p.m. Dennis Edney, well-known Canadian lawyer who played a critical role in the release of Omar Khadr, a young detainee at Guantanamo Bay, died Saturday, December 31, 2023, at the age of 77.

An obituary that appeared in the Edmonton Journal on Monday, January 1, 2024, revealed the news. They continued by saying that Edney suffered from dementia and passed away due to its complications.

The former soccer player who became a lawyer worked on several well-known cases during his career. However, as he spent more than ten years defending Khadr—who was held as a teenager in the notorious US military prison in Cuba—his Scottish accent became well-known throughout the nation.

“Dennis was a great lawyer and friend. In all my years in the legal profession, I’ve never met a lawyer more dedicated to his clients,” said Alberta Court of King’s Bench Justice Nathan Whitling, who was a lawyer on Khadr’s legal team with Edney.

In addition to trying to figure out how to continue being amazing to his loved ones, the family is also trying to come to terms with this new reality and envisioning what the upcoming weeks, months, and years will be like with such a severe loss.

He never stops doing whatever he can to support his neighbors, even in difficult times. Everyone who knew him will sincerely miss him because of the boundless affection he bestows upon the people in his life.
