Kara Welsh, a 21-year-old gymnast at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, died on Friday, August 30, 2024, following multiple gunshots at an off-campus apartment.

Kara was raised in Plainfield, Illinois, and was a teammate, friend, sister, and daughter. She had a special ability to make everyone she came into contact with happy; her good nature, sense of humor, and steadfast support would always make people smile. Her eagerly anticipated last year as a gymnast at UW-Whitewater was abruptly interrupted by a senseless act of violence.
