Jay Slater

A British adolescent has been missing in Tenerife since Monday, June 17, 2024.

Jay Slater, 19, of Lancashire, had been on holiday on the Spanish island. He was last spotted wearing a white t-shirt, shorts, and trainers. He was also thought to be holding a black bag.

He had told a friend, Lucy, that he planned to walk back to his lodgings after a night out after missing a bus, a trek that would take approximately 11 hours.

During the contact, which occurred about 8.15 a.m. on Monday, Slater stated that he was lost, in need of water, and had just 1% of his phone power, according to Lucy.

His phone then stopped working, leaving the Rural de Teno park, a hilly region well-liked by hikers, as his last known position.

According to Lucy, Mr. Slater was taken back to their flat in a hired car by a friend he had met that evening, and the youngster was unaware of the distance.

“He’s ended up out in the middle of nowhere. Jay was obviously thinking he would be able to get home from there,” she said.

Debbie, Slater’s mother, took a Tuesday morning flight to Tenerife with his older brother to be close with the search.

“It sounds as if the police here are taking this very seriously and doing the best job they can”.
A Civil Guard spokeswoman in Tenerife said they were doing “everything possible” to find Mr Slater, including the deployment of a specialist mountain rescue team and a police helicopter “focusing on the area around the village of Masca”.

The search also involves firefighters and other emergency personnel.

As more information is verified, it will be released to the public.
