Highland Park shooting

Evidence was gathered by Highland Park Police Investigators and Lake County Major Crime Task Force Investigators to establish that two brothers, Marc and John, were shot by Jeffrey S. Austwick, 54, of the 1700 block of Park Avenue West, Highland Park.

On Friday, June 7, authorities announced that local authorities had captured Jeffrey, who was placed on wanted list, at about 5:30 a.m. in a park in St. Louis, Missouri. He is being held by the police right now.

According to an initial inquiry, Marc and John visited the residence on Park Avenue West in order to talk with Jeffrey about the property. The mother of the three children owned the property, but she recently passed away.

According to the investigation, Jeffrey shot Marc and John when they got there and then started a fire in the house. After that, Jeffrey drove his car away from the scene. Late on June 5, investigators were able to obtain a nationwide arrest warrant for Jeffrey on two counts of murder.

Pending a preliminary court appearance, Jeffrey is still being held in custody in Missouri.

Until a defendant is proven guilty in a court of law, they are all presumed innocent.
