William Edwards III Shooting

Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 2600 block of 29th Street in Santa Monica on January 25 at around 10:25 AM. The gunshot victim was found by police sitting in his parked car.

William Edwards III, a 46-year-old Los Angeles resident, was identified as the victim. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and passed away there.

Officers were given the suspect’s broad direction of travel by witnesses who observed her depart the area. Throughout the day, detectives from the SMPD put up great effort to identify and track down the culprit who was apprehended this morning in West Los Angeles. Investigations are ongoing to determine the crime’s motivation.

In custody is 27-year-old Kayla Denise Mackey, who is homeless at the moment.
