Who Is Larry Acree: Following the fatal shooting in Independence on Thursday, the Jackson County Prosecutor has charged Larry Acree, 69, with two counts of first-degree murder, one case of first-degree assault, and three counts of armed criminal activity.

The shooting claimed the lives of an Independence police officer and a civil process servant. There were two more police officers hurt.

According to reports, a police and process server went to a house on North Elsea Smith Road in eastern Jackson County with the intention of evicting anyone who was living there, according to a court document that was filed. The process server was shot and fell to the ground inside the front entryway after knocking and proclaiming their presence.

When other police arrived, they made every effort to recover the victims. Two officers were injured, one of whom died from his wounds. Officers opened fire again. The accused person was placed under arrest.

Larry Dean Acree was named as the suspect.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today, Friday, March 1, 2024, that the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has filed multiple felony counts, including two charges of Murder in the First Degree, against an Independence man who fatally shot an Independence police officer and a process server for the 16th Circuit Court.

The inquiry is still on.
