Shakopee Car Accident: On Tuesday night, January 16, the Shakopee Public Schools’ official Facebook page announced the passing of Mikayla McCarvel, a student at Shakopee High School. Mikayla’s family quickly informed them of her passing on a public CaringBridge page.

On December 26, of last year, Mikayla was engaged in a fatal vehicle accident. Due to her injuries, she passed away on Tuesday night, January 16.
Shakopee Varsity Girls Basketball said in a Statement: “It is with heavy hearts that we share our deepest condolences for the loss of Shakopee student-athlete Mikayla McCarvel on January 16th. Words cannot express the sadness felt by our team, coaches, and parents. We stand together in support of her family, the Shakopee Girls High School Hockey – Center Ice Club program, the Class of 2024, the Shakopee student body and our entire community.”
Mikayla’s friends described her as the most brilliant, cheerful, and smiling lady they had ever met. To everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her or spending time with her, she was the most lovely woman. Spending time with her might make you grin within minutes and she is always prepared to lend a helping hand.
For those fortunate enough to see her crafts, she had turned into a source of inspiration.
The Shakopee High School community announced that the Saber Showcase and Blood Drive would not proceed as planned due to the heartbreaking loss. Additionally, a new date for registration support for the 2024–2025 academic year will be announced.
Registration for incoming students in Grades 9-12 for the 2024/25 school year has been extended to February 2, 2024.
