Mount Airy Middle and Jones school Lockdown: A person is dead after a shooting at the Mayberry Mart on Riverside Drive and Pine Street, officials said. The body of the victim was covered with sheet in parking lot behind a tarp. The shooting happened at the 300 block of East Pine St at Marathon beside a gas station.
Officials are on scene advising suspect left the scene on foot wearing a green camo jacket heading down the greenway towards Linville Road.
Mount Airy Middle and Jones school are now on lockdown due to the deadly shooting.
Mount Airy police deparment has K9 track started. K9 track is leading them towards Circle Dr and Hamburg St.
This is an ongoing investigaion, more details are still coming out.
UPDATE!!
A male suspect matching that earlier description has been detained on E Wilson Street. He is now in custody.
Shortly after the suspect was caught. The lockdowns have since been lifted.
