Orland Park police are looking into a fatal shooting that happened overnight.

Police said that shortly after midnight on Wednesday, they were called to the 170th block of Redbud Lane in reference to what seemed to be gunfire.

When they arrived at the scene in the southwest suburban area of Orland Park, they found a woman inside a car who had been shot and killed. She died from the serious wounds, despite efforts to save her.

The suspect left the scene.

Authorities eventually identified the deceased woman as 28-year-old Mechellea Williams on the evening of Wednesday, March 20.

She worked for the Chicago Postal Service. She and another postal worker, as well as possibly the driver, were passengers in the vehicle.

“To everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her or spending time with her, she was the most amazing woman. Spending time with her might make you grin within minutes and she is always prepared to lend a helping hand,” a friend said.

She was an authentic achiever who pursued her goals without hesitation and enjoyed life to the fullest till the very end. Mechellea was valued by friends both personally and professionally; she will be sadly missed.
