Peyton Plunkett and Seth Battlefield Death: Just before 5:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G started looking into a single-vehicle tragic event that happened on Rambin Road, just west of U.S. Highway 171. The victims of the collision were Shreveport native Peyton Plunkett, 18, and Haughton native Seth Battlefield, 18.

According to the preliminary inquiry, Plunkett was traveling east on Rambin Road in a 2019 Ford F-150. Unknown causes caused the F-150 to go over the centerline, go off the course to the left, and crash into a tree.

After being taken to a nearby hospital, Plunkett and Battlefield were declared dead. Two more unrestrained teenagers were hurt badly and sent to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. Samples for routine toxicology were gathered and will be sent in for examination. Investigations into this crash are still ongoing.

Troopers observe avoidable car accidents on a regular basis. Statewide, the two main factors contributing to collisions are impairment and improper use of seat belts. When ingesting alcohol, drivers are urged by the Louisiana State Police to select a driver as part of their plan. Alcohol can affect one’s capacity to see, as well as one’s perception of time and space, fine motor abilities, and reaction speeds. After only one drink, alcohol can start to affect a person’s ability to drive safely. Please always strap up and refrain from operating a vehicle while intoxicated or from riding with one.

Louisiana State Troopers want to encourage drivers to follow all speed limit signs and to prevent distractions. Speeding impairs a driver’s ability to properly steer around curves or obstructions in the road, increases the distance required to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving habits are major causes of highway accidents and fatalities.

Troop G investigated 22 fatal crashes in 2023, resulting in 23 deaths. According to Love Shreveport-Bossier on Facebook.
