Since yesterday, Sunday, August 11, family members and friends have been praying at the Vaal Dam in the hopes of discovering missing matriculant Reza, the head boy of Greenside High School, who was “pulled” into the water. Reza is 18 years old.

What Happened To Reza Saloojee

According to a number of accounts, Reza and his family had spent the day at the dam and were prepared to head home when he returned to the water to get a few personal belongings. However, because of the strong wind at the time, the items that were on the dam’s banks had moved farther into the water.

Reza entered the water and felt as though he was “pulled” in suddenly. Despite his ability to swim, he was unable to return to the beach because of the strong current and wind and instead vanished into the water.

Reza was nowhere to be found despite police divers calling and searching the area long into the evening.

Although it was unsuccessful, a police helicopter also helped with the search.

Police picked up the search early on Monday morning and carried it out all day, but to no effect. Dad of Reza, Bilaal, was holding a vigil at the dam with family and friends when he received a call concerning his oldest son, Reza, who he last saw on Sunday morning before going fishing at the dam.

Reza was going to take a day off from studying. We continue to hope and pray that Reza will be discovered alive. The family has requested prayers for Reza’s prompt and safe return.

Please keep Reza’s family and friends in your prayers and thoughts.
