Shooting In Downtown

On Sunday, September 1, there was a shooting near 40th and Thomas in Homewood that left one person officially dead and another injured. There were closed-off neighborhoods and buzzing helicopters. As further details become available, the identify of the deceased person has not yet been made public.

Another casualty was brought to the medical facility.

At 12:39 p.m., according to public safety officials, a 15-round ShotSpotter alarm was received, prompting Pittsburgh police, fire, and emergency medical services to be dispatched to Frankstown Avenue near Brushton Avenue.

Officers on arrival discovered the wounded man in the road shot on the leg. While emergency personnel came and were able to transport him to a nearby hospital, they provided care and applied a tourniquet. When being transferred, he was steady, cognizant, and awake.

At the scene, investigators analyzed evidence, recovering shell casings and video.

The investigation is still ongoing and no one has been taken into custody.
