Shooting In Strathmore

Wheatland County was placed under a temporary shelter-in-place order following a fatal shooting on Tuesday afternoon, August 6.

Tuesday about 12 p.m., the RCMP was notified of a shooting incident close to the intersection of Township Road 250 and Range Road 282. Responding RCMP members were from Airdrie, Chestermere, and Strathmore.

Officers arrived and found that two people had been shot, one fatally and the other superficially.

What Happened

The two shoot victims were independent individuals at the junction, not coworkers.

According to Wielgosz, just one car was disposed of at the original site, and the suspects drove off in a white pickup truck that belonged to the Rocky View County fleet.

The RCMP has characterized the individuals as “armed and extremely dangerous.”

The car was followed by the police to a second location, which was close to the junction of Township Road 252 and Range Road 260. An emergency alert and shelter-in-place order were issued once the second location was located, enabling responding officers to conduct operations in a safe manner.

Everyone was instructed to close and lock their windows and doors, not open their doors or pick up strangers, from Highway 564 north to Township Road 262 and between Range Road 253 east to Range Road 251, according to the emergency notice.
