Steve Silberman

Author at NeuroTribes: Autism’s Legacy and Neurodiversity’s Future Steve Silberman, an Oberlin College psychology student, passed away. The notification was posted on Bluesky by @WardQNormal, his spouse.

In addition to being a fantastic writer and journalist, Steve was also one of the most remarkable people you will ever meet.

“NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity” is a book he wrote.

While his writings on autism brought him fame, his most memorable work is “Unworldly Love,” a poignant and intimate short memoir he wrote about his experiences as a young gay man in the 1970s for Volume 3 of the annual Spoon Knife neuroqueer lit anthology back in 2018.

He is a good man with a great and generous heart.

“I am beyond saddened by this news having the honour of meeting him a few times and chatting often online not that long ago
taken too soon”

Steve was a daily gift of wisdom, comedy, and activism; the world would be a poorer place without him. Please remember and pray for his family and friends.

The cause of death is yet unknown. We will update this page as soon as information about his cause of death becomes available, so please return often.
