Taberon Dave Honie

In Utah’s first execution since 2010, death row convict Taberon Dave Honie was executed by lethal injection for the stabbing death of Claudia Benn, the mother of his girlfriend.

Taberon After a 17-minute execution including two doses of pentobarbital, Dave was declared dead at 12:25 a.m. He had tapped his foot and mouthed the words “I love you” to his family, who were observing from the witness chamber.

His parting remarks were, “From the start it’s been, if it needs to be done for them to heal, let’s do this. If they tell you you can’t change, don’t listen to them. To all my brothers and sisters in here, continue to change. I love you all. Take care.”

In fourteen years, the state had not had an execution.

In response, Krisanne Vaillancourt Murphy, Executive Director of CMN, said, “The death penalty is not needed in our societies—not in Utah, and not anywhere.”
