Sadly, Kara Welsh, a 21-year-old University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student and exceptional collegiate gymnast, was shot and died in her off-campus apartment on Friday night.
Welsh, who attended Aspire Gymnastics Academy in Joliet and was up in Plainfield, Illinois, is being remembered by a number of towns. Before she was shot, the police said, she got into a fight with a male, age 23, in her apartment.
The person is being held and is being charged with multiple crimes.
This year, Kara planned to graduate from UW-Whitewater as a senior. On Tuesday, the first day of the autumn semester, flags on the UWW campus will fly at half staff in her honor.
