We are deeply saddened to hear that former Dorman Head Girls Basketball Coach Valorie Whiteside passed away this morning. Coach Whiteside was the winningest girls basketball coach in Dorman history and impacted the lives of countless players and coaches.

Who Is Valorie Whiteside

Valorie played for the Mountaineers from 1984 to 1988. In 1985, she became the first App State All-American. In addition, she owns the three single-season scoring records and is the first student-athlete in program history with at least 2,000 career points.

With 215 career victories as a coach, she took the lead in Dorman’s all-time girls basketball winning total in February 2022.

Friends and family were grieved to learn of Valorie’s passing and felt compelled to share their feelings on social media to let the world know how sad they were. Valorie was a kind coach, beautiful friend, and a gorgeous spirit.
