Who Is Ignatius Jones

Jones, who was born in Manila in 1957, gained notoriety as Jimmy And The Boys’ lead vocalist in the shock rock genre.

In addition to his musical career, Jones has contributed significantly to some of Australia’s most significant occasions over the past thirty years.

The singer oversaw the Sydney New Year’s Eve celebrations for six years (1996–2002), and he was also in charge of the City of Sydney’s Millennium Celebrations.

Alongside David Atkins, he served as artistic director for both the Harbour Spectacular Closing Ceremony and the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games.

Not only was Ignatius Jones a bright light, but he was an unblinking light that was impossible to miss. He was always one step ahead of his game, whether it was in Vivid or Jimmy & the Boys days, the Olympics, or anything in between.

In 2019, Jones was also awarded the Order of Australia for his artistic contributions as a writer, director, author, and performer.

“His friends and family will remeber Iggy as a bon-vivant, a lively raconteur and a real Renaissance man, immensely and passionately knowledgeable in history and the arts. The arts community in Australia has lost a champion, and dinner parties will now be less intresting, with his passing.”

Keep his sister and family members in your thougths and prayers.
