UGA Student Death, Laken Riley

Jose Antonio Ibarra Arrest: On Friday, February 23, at around 6:29 p.m., UGA Police announced to the public that a male individual had been identified as the murder suspect of Laken Riley and was currently under arrest. The UGA Police Department reports that the man, Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, is not a citizen of the United States.

Who Is Jose Antonio Ibarra

According to the chief, he did reside in an apartment building that overlooked Oconee Forest Park, the site of the murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley. Investigators flocked to the residence on S. Milledge Avenue last night, and they are still there as of this hour. The chief stated that although other persons were being held, investigators think Ibarra acted alone.

It was established that Riley and Ibarra had never met before. The fact that it was an opportunity crime was made public by the Chief.

A warrant is being signed for a number of felonies, such as concealing another person’s death and murder.

Because of the awful nature of this homicide, it is yet unknown if Ibarra had committed any other crimes on campus. The Chief claims that Ibarra had no violent criminal past.

According to the Chief, this man essentially woke up on Thursday with the intention of killing someone, and Riley was the unfortunate victim because she was in the wrong location at the wrong time.

The Riley family and Laken’s friends are still processing the anguish this situation has caused them, so please keep them in your prayers and thoughts.
