Stan Bowles Obituary - Passed Away

Football Legend Stan Bowles Has Passed Away: QPR legend Stan Bowles also known as ‘Stan the Man’ the legendary number 10, one of the reasons that the particular shirt number is so special, has sadly passed away at the aged of 75 on Saturday, February 24. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015, according to some preliminary reports.

Who is Stan Bowles

Stanley Bowles, a beloved figure on the Loftus Road terraces, is without a doubt one of the best players to have ever worn the iconic blue and white hoops.

In addition, he earned five full England caps while playing for Rangers. He also had stints with Manchester City, Bury, Crewe Alexandra, Carlisle United, Nottingham Forest, Leyton Orient, and Brentford.

Bowles joined QPR on Friday, September 8, 1972, after leaving Carlisle United. Gordon Jago, the manager of the R’s at the time, had high aspirations for the team to advance from the old Second Division (now the Championship), and he considered Stan as a key component of those ambitions, a showman to thrill the Loftus Road crowd following the transfer of fellow crowd-pleaser Rodney Marsh to Man City six months prior.

Whatever the case, Stan was a unique talent and a football star of the 1970s, well-known for his antics on and off the field, and his close buddy and teammate Don Shanks was never far from the action! He was also among his generation’s most naturally talented players.

In the middle of the 1970s, he was a standout player for Rangers, who came in second to Liverpool and advanced to the UEFA Cup quarterfinals the following year.

His notoriety was highlighted by the naming of a stand at Loftus Road in his honor. In the summer of 2022, the Ellerslie Road Stand was renamed The Stanley Bowles Stand, demonstrating how much of an icon he will always be.

The ultimate Loft legend, he is gone but will never, ever be forgotten.

In due course, the club will confirm how supporters will honor Stan appropriately.

We are all thinking of his family and friends during this very trying time.
